Mike Huckabee Exploits Pakistani Crisis to Stir The Immigration Debate PDF Print E-mail

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee tried to link the crisis in Pakistan to the red-hot issue of immigration.  He suggested that the events associated with Benazir Bhutto’s assassination should remind the American people of the many Pakistanis who attempt to enter the United States illegally.  He also stated the some of them attempt to harm Americans.

Hucabee brought up the topic of immigration to link the Pakistani crisis to life in “hometown” USA.  "A lot of Americans sitting in Pella, Iowa, maybe look halfway around the world and say, how does that affect me? The way it affects them is that we need to understand that violence and terror is significant when it happens in Pakistan. It's more significant if it could happen in our own cities," he said. "The unsecured borders that we have pose a real national security threat," he said.

Hucabee is demonstrating that he is like every other politician by using fear mongering to drive his agenda home.  The guy has no foreign policy experience and should stick to topics that he is familiar with.  I am supportive of strong immigration reform, but I have a hard time with people that use fear to get people to support their agenda

Dear Mikey,

STOP THE FEAR MONGERING TO DRIVE YOUR AGENDA!
